Ultra compact two-way bookshelf speakers Old School Hobby boast the classic style straight out of 1980s. While adhering to traditions and ideals of high fidelity sound reproduction, they feature state-of-the-art materials, technology and components.
Old School Hobby speakers are equipped with custom made according to our specifications drivers. The fabric dome of 30mm tweeter is impregnated for additional rigidity and reduced unwanted resonance. Treble driver is placed in the waveguide flange shaped as shallow horn which accounts for the better dispersion. Low-mass moving coil motor of the tweeter has an impressively agile way with transients, making the overall sound rhythmical and precise. Compact 4-inch mid/bass driver equipped with Balanced Drive technology motor ensuring low distortion.
Top, bottom and side panels of the cabinet enclosure are made from birch plywood while front and back are made from MDF. Rear-firing reflex port is placed on back panel. A lot of attention was paid to the damping. The cabinet is internally braced, side panels are lined with bitumen sheets from within, special-purpose foam is responsible for sound absorption. Clever and comprehensive damping keeps any cabinet resonances and artifacts to a minimum.
Crossover is made of High End components including wirewound non-inductive resistors with bifilar winding and polypropylene capacitors. Crossover cabling is manually made by single-core copper wires via point-to-point wiring. Speaker cable binding posts feature WBT nextgen 0708 CU sockets. Low Mass technology (with minimum mass of the conductive part) ensures shortest possible signal path.
Old School Hobby speakers do the term “hobby” justice – especially if interpreted broadly, as an engagement and passion instead of mere interest. These compact speakers offer the involvement and joy of listening beyond expectations. There’s always room for them in your comfortable office or at the large writing desk.
These speakers are available in walnut, oak, or black ash veneer finishes with anthracite front baffle.
